Photoshop Crash Course

By Jeremy Shuback

The hope of this tutorial is to get you up and running in Photoshop in as little time as possible. To get good at Photoshop takes practice, but learning the tools and tecniques shouldn't be too painful.

This tutorial focuses on the tools worth knowing without getting into the nitty gritty of minutia rarely needed. It assumes no prior Photoshop knowledge, just the ability to learn new skills. Photoshop is a surprisingly simple program to use. At its core theres three main things to know. You can work with multiple images at once using layers, it allows you to trace images, and it allows you to color correct.

If you can master those three things, all simple separately, the rest will fall into place.

I'll mostly go through the features and how to use them, but for those playing along at home try combining two images to make sure you understand what's being said. Chase down a picture of a head and a picture of a body. You can stick any head on any body or if you’re adventurous add a body into a setting where it wasn't before.

Before getting into the meat of this tutorial, I want you to know a lots about to be thrown your way in the form of hotkeys and Menu Items. Ultimately, the hardest part about Photoshop is just knowing where everything is. Once you sort that out, the rest falls into place, so get ready to take some notes as I begin.
